I have been interested in drawing and painting as long as I can remember. I was formally introduced to the field of watercolors during my academic training in architecture at the University of Illinois in 1957 and there began a lifelong passion for watercolors. I followed that experience as a graduate student at the University of California, Berkeley in 1961 where I taught graphics and watercolors as a graduate assistant. Since then, I have continued my painting activities along with participating in several watercolor workshops in the Door County Wisconsin art community. I enjoy working both on location, and at my home studio overlooking Lake Michigan's Green Bay in Northeast Wisconsin on subjects gathered on personal travel.
I am particularly interested in subjects involving water and landscapes with unique structures which comprise the majority of paintings. A large number of my paintings include fly-fishing scenes based on personal experiences gathered on my trips to Montana. This activity combines my interest for fly fishing and love of painting. My goal is to capture the uniqueness of the natural setting and solitude of flyfishing through mood and color. My paintings utilize 100% transparent watercolor medium in an impressionist format on watercolor paper. I regularly submit work for juried exhibits in Wisconsin and at the national level and have also exhibited work on consignment at Northwestern University, On/is Fly Fishing in Chicago, Old Main Gallery Bozeman, and George Anderson's Yellowstone Angler. I see my painting as a continuing education in a traditional medium that has brought great joys and challenge since I began.
